Techno-reliance?

Aaaaaaand I have internet again! Thank god! It was getting to be a bit much typing out some of those posts on my phone in the morning.

It unfortunately has opened my eyes to the fact that I've become quite reliant on technology. If I leave my phone at home I don't fret too too much because I know I can check e-mail/blog/other blogs/facebook/twitter/etc... on my computer at work. If I didn't have my computer for a short period of time I'm okay, because I would normally have my phone and can check things on there. When I don't have either... I start getting a little antsy. That really isn't good! I had gone less than 3 weeks without the internet at home and I was getting irritable! It's like taking a junkie's drug away from them. I've become an internet junkie, complete with twitches!

Something tells me I need to get out more... Hmmm.

Just a few years ago I used to memorize everything. Phone numbers, dates, schedules, you name it. Heck, I memorized my schedule AND I memorized the Mec E Club president's schedule so I could remind him when he needed to be somewhere. Now? A friend asked me last week when I was free to hang out and I couldn't give him a definitive answer because I had forgotten my phone at home and my schedule was in it. That's just sad. I'm in a self induced technology laden brain fog.

Again, I need to get out more. I received a 30 day free trial pass to the gym a couple blocks down from my house. I'll check and see what the catch is, and maybe start hitting it and see if that helps with clearing the fog.

Does anyone else out there feel as tethered as I do to their technology some days?

I honestly don't even know how people lived before smart phones!
Well, I do, cause I had to once upon a time. But my phone has gotten me out of binds many, many times.

Funny you mention this topic, because I've been having those same thoughts. I've had a smartphone for 6 months and I don't know what I did before. Hard to imagine that not that many years ago people didn't have cell phones. I didn't have one until grad school (I'm a bit older obviously), so I totally grew up with landline phones. Actually, I remember that even cordless landline phones were a big deal at one time.

Everyone seemed to get by just fine back then.

Makes me wonder why I'm hooked on being "connected" to technology most of the day now!

I don't know phone numbers (never did) but I know my schedule and all my numbers for banking, and passwords...

it does make me wonder sometimes how I managed without internet banking, billpaying, google etc. I really miss it when I don't have it but a break now again is probably good for me,

I don't have a smart phone, so I survive just fine without one...

But I could not possibly survive without the internet. I've had the internet since the early to mid 1990s using a 9600 baud modem.

Probably the only reason I get by without a smart phone is because I rarely ever deviate outside my regular travel to and from work AND I have a computer at work and at home that both have the internet.

There have been a few times when I wish I had google maps / internet on my phone though! But currently it isn't worth the extra ~$50 / month for a data plan for those extremely rare occasions.
